MENDEL B. ABRAHAMSON

MENDEL B. ABRAHAMSON

Mendel B. Abrahamson (1866-1940) was a pioneer businessman that operated a "dry goods and notions" store in Bramwell, WV in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was born in the town of Tavrik, Lithuania. His wife, Minnie Kwass Abrahamson (1873-1937) was also born in Tels, Lithuania. They had one duaghter, Anna Abrahamson Effron (1903 -1988).

Bramwells's Victorian Elegance Apartments was where Mendel Abrahamson and his family lived while they operated the Abrahamson store on Main Street. These apartments were located beside the Historic Pence Hotel building and Bramwell Theater in the open balcony building. Mrs. Jenny Pence had this brick building built after the January 1910 Bramwell fire that destroyed her first hotel and many of the wooden frame buildings along Main Street. She lost control of the hotel during the Depression and the building was converted to apartments. The Main Street view page linked below shows a view of the buildings along Main Street as they exist today.
