| Mrs.
Petty was known by hundreds of present and former
Bramwell, West Virginia residents for her work in the
community, church and perhaps most of all the great
lunches that she and Mrs. Alma Powell served in the
Bramwell School cafeteria during the 1940s, 1950s and
1960s. She is remembered for her dedication to the
Bramwell High School Band, where she served as president
of the Band Boosters Club for many years. She also gave
exceptional support to the Elizabeth Bowen Methodist
Church of Bramwell, WV. Mrs. Petty was born August 3, 1911 on Sinai Mountain ( Bailey House ) near Goodwill, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Alex Bailey (1872 - 1939) and Lucindy Taylor Bailey (1873 -1949). Her husband was William Haskel Petty (1911 - 1940) of Marion, Virginia. They lived in the Buckeye Coal & Coke Company Houses during the 1930s and lived near Buckeye Hollow TIPPLE NO. 2 . In 1938 they built a home in Freeman,WV and and lived their lives out there. The house is located near the historic Tabor House on Pinnacle Mountain. |
