Virginia Martin, BHS Class 1935 Remembered Mecklenburg, NC, United States: Virginia Martin Scott - Mrs. Scott, age 86, of Charlotte, NC departed this life for a better one on December 18, 2003 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born February 23, 1917, the third of eight children, to the late Lillie Jefferson and Burkie Martin in Bramwell, WV. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Frazier Scott, on May 2, 2001, one sister and four brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Scott Holder and husband George of Charlotte; a son, Dr. Jimmy Scott of Hastings, Ontario Canada; grandchildren, Jay Scott of Media, PA, Jonathan Scott and wife Karin of Paderborn, Germany, Lisa Holder Paige and husband Rusty of Charlotte, Maria Holder Davis and husband Benny of Deltona, FL, Melissa Holder Kirkland and husband Robert of Gastonia; great grandchildren, Brian of Paderborn, Germany, Tiffany of Deltona, FL, Robbie and Georgia of Gastonia; a sister, Catherine Martin Smith of Morgantown, WV and Leesburg, FL; and a brother, Roland Martin of Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Scott graduated from Bramwell High School in Bramwell, WV. After rearing her children a friend encouraged her to become involved in the food industry. She attended Central Piedmont for the Culinary Arts and retired as manager of West Mecklenburg High School cafeteria in 1982. The Scott family moved to Charlotte in 1946 and had lived on Tuckaseegee Road since 1952. She loved playing Bridge, traveling with her husband and being involved in the community and church activities. Mrs. Scott was a past member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Charter member of Mulberry Baptist Church, and current member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class until her health prevented her attendance. The family is very appreciative of the dedicated care she received at Charlotte Health Care Center. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Virginia Martin Scott will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2003 in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with The Reverend Phil Thomas officiating. Friends are welcome at the service, but the Scott family would encourage you to spend that time with your family during this Holiday season. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Scott to The Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220, or The Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
