BLUEWELL, WV— Charles Edward Hurst, Sr., 78, of Camellia Drive (Bluewell), Bluefield, passed away with his loving family around him on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Born on March 6, 1936 in Dott, WV, he was a son of the late Chester Edward and Ada May Mateer Hurst.

He had been a member of the Bluewell community for 78 years and was a retired salesman for Bluefield Hardware Company for 28 years. He also owned and ran Hardware Charlie's in Bluewell for 31 years. He was a member of the Bluewell Lions Club, and the masons and shriners as well. He was a graduate of Bramwell High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Gail Sparks Hurst; 2 brothers, CM and Robert Lee Hurst; and a nephew, Larry Keith Hurst. Survivors include: Son: Charles Edward Hurst, Jr. of Bluefield. Daughter: Sandra Lynn Hurst Vaught of Harker Heights, TX. He also loved an adored every minute with his grandchildren: Sarah Michelle Vaught of Austin, TX; and Nicholas Ryan Hurst of Roanoke, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Roger Lacy officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Because of Charles' love for children, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
