West Virginia - "Almost Heaven"
The picture of Mrs.
Avis Petty was taken in December 1997 as she quilted the
last of her many quilts. She quilted for almost sixty
years and made approximately one hundred quilts since
quilting her first quilt in 1940. Over the years she
donated quilts to charity and to her church. She gave
many quilts to her children, grand children and great
grand children. These beautiful quilts have become
priceless heirlooms to those who possess them. They will
be passed down from one generation to the next. Quilts featured here were made by Avis Petty. The "Church Window" quilt had some contributions by the women of the Bramwell Methodist Church and this quilt was donated by these women to church to raise funds. The "Dutch Girl" and "Daisey" quilts were made by Mrs. Petty in the 1980s. These quilts are representative examples of her workmanship in making quilts. |
