HARRY DONNEL MURPHY

Harry Donnel "Don" Murphy, 66, of Box 308, Bramwell, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center of Bluefield. Born Oct. 1, 1931, in Bramwell, he was a son of the late George Patrick Murphy and Margaret Marie Painter Murphy. Mr. Murphy had been a lifelong resident of Bramwell, was the present mayor of Bramwell and had been for 11 years.

He was a graduate of Bramwell High School and Concord College. He was the former postmaster of Freeman, a former social worker in McDowell County, former school teacher and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, treasurer and elder. He was a member of the Bramwell Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 45; member of the Grand Chapter R.A.M. of West Virginia; member of the Beni Kedem Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Charleston; member of Bluefield Shrine Club; and a member of the Elks Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Murphy. Survivors include his wife, EVELYN COOPER MURPHY of Bramwell; daughter, Kelly Erin Murphy Eller and husband, Michael, of Bramwell; son, Kim Christopher Murphy and wife, Dawn, of Bluewell; sisters, Mollie Murphy Davidson and husband, Clifford, of Princeton, and Teresa Murphy Reed and husband, Larry, of Bramwell; brother, Douglas George Murphy of Tallahassee, Fla.; and grandchildren, Jessica Michelle Eller, Erin Laurel Eller, Keenan Shea Murphy and Brennan Seth Murphy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Cravens Shires Funeral Home Chapel of Bluewell with the Rev. Dale Compton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ansley Carter. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluewell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jeff Vance, Reginald Sexton, Joe Vinciguerra, Harry Miller, Kenny Beard, David Hall, Mark Bevins, Keith Honaker and Jimmy Carver. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Painter, McKinley Corneft and Terry Corner.
