DON GORDON OWENS,BHS Class'53 passed away - January 2,2018. Don Gordon Owens Knoxville, TN Don Gordon Owens, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home on January 2, 2018. Don will long be remembered for his entertaining stories, integrity, and tremendous dedication to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Don was born in Goodwill, West Virginia, on June 11, 1935 to Charlie and Alva Owens. His father was a coal minor and his mother was a teacher and post master. From them, Don learned solid Christian values that guided his life. His determination to instill those values in others led Don to leave his small coal mining town for Washington, D.C., where he became a clerk for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover's regime. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Hubler. While raising young children they both worked hard, enabling Don to complete college and realize his dream of becoming an FBI agent. Don served the Bureau for 32 years, both as an agent and in an administrative capacity. Upon his retirement he did contract work for the Department of Defense, and was a member of Cherokee Lodge 728, serving as a mason for over 50 years. Don never lost touch with his brothers in the FBI, and his fondest remembrances came from his experiences as an agent in the field. His antidotes and stories continued to uplift and inspire people he met, even to the last day of his life. Don is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Owens, his parents, Charles and Alva Owens, and his brothers Jim and Bob Owens. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Duggan and husband Geoff of Knoxville, their daughter, Samantha and husband Will of Memphis, and great grandsons, Charlie and Henry; his son, Don Owens and wife Krissie of Noblesville, IN, their daughter, Ashley and husband Dallas, and his son, Don III; his daughter, Pamela Morrison and husband Rick of Signal Mountain, TN, their daughter, Layne Morrison, and sons, Henry and Ward. He also leaves behind a loving sister, Sandra McMurray and husband Jim, his sister-in-law, Jerry Owens, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6 at Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 in the Fellowship Hall of Second Presbyterian Church, followed by a memorial service at noon, the Reverend Tim Reynolds officiating. There will be a lunch for family and out of town friends in the parlor immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, where Don was a faithful member for over 30 years. Online condolences may be received at www.rosemortuary.com.
