GOODWILL, WV PIONEERS

CHARLES-AARON-DUNCAN-FAMILY

Charles Aaron Duncan and wife, Mary Ann Blevins Duncan were amoung the pioneers of Goodwill during the early 19th century coal mining boom in that area.

The photograph is believed to have been taken in "Frogtown", which is a part of the Goodwill coal mining community. The Duncans were long time residents of the Frogtown and were well known.

Some folks may remember that they operated a general store in Frogtown. The store was in a very large building that was located just beside the railroad tracks. Their residence was also located in the store building.

Brief Life History of Charles Aaron:

When Charles Aaron Duncan was born on 29 August 1876, in Ashe, North Carolina, United States, his father, William James Duncan, was 31 and his mother, Mary Jane Howell, was 24. He married Mary Ann Blevins on 9 October 1899, in Ashe, North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Rock, Mercer, West Virginia, United States in 1920 and Rock District, Mercer, West Virginia, United States in 1940. He died on 6 February 1945, in Goodwill, Mercer, West Virginia, United States, at the age of 68, and was buried in Mercer, West Virginia, United States.
