Gaylord Garland Petty

G. G. Petty was born on Fb. 29,1908. He was the son of John Wesley and Zilpha Stykes Petty of Marion VA. He came to the southern WV area of Freeman in the 1920s and once lived in the coal mining camp located beside the Buckeye Coal Company Tipple in Buckeye Hollow in the 1930s.

G.G. was the husband of Ella Petty. They had one daughter, Louise Petty Johnson. Louise graduated frrom Bramwel High school in 1948. Ella Duncan Petty was born July 3, 1900. Ella died in May 1987.

Gaylord and Ella lived in Buckeye Hollow, near Freeman ,WV in the 1930s and in Goodwill, WV in the 1940s. During that period, he was in the timber business. He later went into coal mining and operated several mines in Buckeye Hollow, near Freeman, WV in the 1950-1960 time frame. Sometime in the 1980s Gaylord and his wife, Ella moved to South Bluefield, WV, where he lived until his death in 1998.
