| Colonel John Hewitt was born in Lancashire, England in 1847 and came to the United States in 1852. He died in 1903 and his grave is located at the Historic Freeman Cemetery in Freeman, West Virginia. His remarkable life story as a true coal baron in the southern West Virginia coalfields is highlighted on the Bramwell history page. Historic Bramwell's first mayor, Colonel John Hewitt was buried October 11, 1903 at the Freeman Oak Hill Cemetery that lies beside th BaptistChurch. |
