Caswell Creek Mine near Freeman, WV

Jenkin Jones opened this mine after coming to Southern, West Virginia in 1884 and leasing 1400 acres of land from the Flat-Top Coal Association. He and John Freeman started the Caswell Creek Coal and Coke Company.

These miners represent Southern West Virginia's Pioneer Coal Miners from the Bramwell area. Pictured from (L-R): George Blizzard, Dave Fitzgerold, John Scott, Luther Wood and John Wood. These men along with thousands of other miners made Southern West Virginia known for producing coal.
