ROBERT L "BOB" MILES

Robert L. "Bob" Miles, 66, of Route 3, Box 111 (Bluewell), Bluefield, WV died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the General Division, Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, following a short illness.

Born Dec. 12, 1932, at Freeman, he was a son of the late T.W. and Ethel Shrader Miles. A graduate of Bramwell High School, he was a butcher for the Piggly Wiggly Supermarket on Bland Street for 20 years and was a retired meat inspector for the State of West Virginia Dept. of Agriculture with 27 years of service.

He was a member of the chairman of the board of the Bramwell United Methodist Church and a faithful member of the church choir. He held the rank of assistant chief of the Bluewell Volunteer Fire Department, and also served as treasurer. He was a member of the Mercer County Fireman's Association and held the office of treasurer since the beginning of the association. He was a past president of the Bluewell PTO, member and past president of the Bluewell Lions Club.

He also served on the Pinnacle Rock Foundation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas B. Miles and one sister, Elizabeth Miles Evans. Survivors include his wife Phyllis Conner Miles of the home; daughter, Jane Lee Miles Strickland and husband Steve of Princeton; brothers, Frank "Jack" Miles and wife Mildred of Bluefield, Va., Emory Miles and wife Karen of Kissimmee, Fla., Walter E. Miles and wife Betty of Monteverde, Fla., and Bill Miles and wife Margie of Monteverde; sisters, Myrtle Butt and husband Marion of Bluefield, Margie Brewster and Dorothy David, both of Kissimmee, and Dolly Drain and husband John of Bridgeton, N.J.; 25 nieces and nephews; and special nephew, Don Miles and wife Linda of Virginia Beach, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bramwell United Methodist Church, Bramwell, with the Revs. Ray Conrad and Lee Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell. Pallbearers will be Jim Martin Sr., Jim Martin Jr., Mack Wright, John Wright,Richard Brewster and T.A. "Buddy" Warden Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bluewell Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Bluewell Lions Club.

Friends may call at Cravens Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday.
