ROCK, WV - Ruby Mae Shrewsbury, 99, of Route 3, Box 377 (Duhring), Rock, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at her residence. Born on May 4, 1907 in Freeman, she was the eldest daughter of the late Edgar Lee and Minnie Belle Bennett Williams.

She grew up in Freeman, attended Bramwell High School, and the Elizabeth Bowen Jones United Methodist Church until her marriage to Cletis Shrewsbury in 1926. At that time, she moved to Duhring and became a member of the Duhring Church of Christ. Ruby was a homemaker, a mother to four children and a loving wife to Cletis for 59 years.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rock Chapter No. 130 in Montcalm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cletis Shrewsbury; one daughter, Peggy Joyce Painter; one son, Cletis Roy Shrewsbury; two infant grandsons, Claude Emmett Painter Jr. and John Cletis Painter; four brothers, Hedley Williams, Buford Williams, Clarence (Buck) Williams, and Charles (Dee Bee) Williams; and one sister, Lillian Williams Graham.

Survivors include: One son: Robert L. Shrewsbury of Duhring; one daughter: Mrs. Ken (Betty) Kirby of Bluewell; grandchildren: Mrs. Rondal (Debbie Painter) Ratliff of Greenwood, Mo., Mrs. Rick (Kendra Kirby) Murphy of Pulaski, Va.; great grandchildren: Natasha Ratliff, Kara Murphy, and Kyler Murphy; sisters: Edna Whitteker of the Havens, Princeton, Margaret Marshall of Westwood Health Care, Bluefield, Va., M. Elizabeth (Betty) Ruff of N. Las Vegas, Nev., Lucille Webb of Wilmington, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends: Elizabeth S. Jones and Gertrude Patterson; three loving caregivers: Sharon Fitzko, Tammy Minnix, and Susan Cable.

Funeral services were conducted on at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. David Ratcliff officiating. Entombment followed at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell where Rick Murphy, Walter Goins, James Goins, Freddy Kirby, Dennis Kirby, and Tom Kirby served as pallbearers.
