BHS CLAS 1943- STUARD PARKS, JR.
BLUEFIELD — Stuard A. “Sach” Parks, Jr., 82, of 4105 East Cumberland Road, Bluefield, W.Va., died Sunday, July 27, 2008 in a Bluefield hospital.Born March 5, 1926 in Rock, W.Va., he was a son of the late Stuard A. Parks, Sr. and Margaret Cook Parks. Stuard was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church and a retired Conductor with the N and W Railroad Co.Active in both Civic and Community affairs, Stuard served as an Usher and Deacon at his Church, was a member of Bluefield-Mercer Lodge # 85 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite and was a member of Beni Kedem Shrine, Bluefield Shrine Club and Bluefield Patrol, where he served many years as Chairman of the Children’s Transportation Program.
He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the American Legion Riley Vest Post # 9, United Transportation Union Local # 655, Bluefield, W.Va. and served 20 years as Vice Chairman of the Legislative Board.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 ˝ years, Dorothy Kopczynski Parks of the home; daughters: Barbara Jean Washburn and her husband Bob of Melbourne, Fla., Marcia Lee Thacker and her husband Fredrick “Lee” Thacker of Townsend, Tenn., and Robin Gail Angles and her special friend Randy Berrier of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, James M. Parks and his wife Lila of Orlando, Fla.; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home and Crematory of Bluefield with the Rev. Ken Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va. where Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by Bluefield-Mercer Lodge # 85 and Military Honors will be rendered by the West Virginia Army National Guard and members of the Mercer County Veterans Council. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray (Alexander) Vines, Donnie Gott, Ted Baker, Kermit Blizzard, Lee Thacker and SSgt. Joshua David Hanson, USMC and Randy Berrier.
