TRANSPORTABLE ELECTOMAGNETICS PULSE (EMP) SIMULATOR " TEMPS "

TRANSPORTABLE EMP SIMULATOR (TEMPS) ANTENNA - DEPLOYED FOR INITIAL TESTING AT FORT BRAGG ,

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.

TRANSPORTABLE EMP SIMULATOR (TEMPS) ANTENNA - DEPLOYED AT THE WOODBRIDGE RESEARCH FACILITY.

Two 3.5 Megavolt MARX Generators are used in the TEMPS Simulator.

TRANSPORTABLE EMP SIMULATOR (TEMPS) & AESOP MARX ( Uses two in each simulator )

AESOP IS A FIXED "THREAT LEVEL" EMP SIMULTER LOCATED AT THE WOODBRIDGE RESEARCH FACILITY, WOODBRIDGE, VA

The EMP threat level simulator, TEMPS was developed under the technical and mangerial leadership of William "Bill" Petty of Harry Diamond Laboratories for the Defense Nuclear Agency . William Petty convinced the Director of the Defense Nuclear Agency to fund the deevelopemnt of Temps by primising the simulator would be developed under budget and within a two year period. Both were achieved. TEMPS was deployed at many different communictions facilities for extensive testing of these facilities. He also technically managed the deelopment of the Army's threat level ( AESOP ) simulater located a the Woodbridge Research Facility.

WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT THE DEFENSE NUCLEAR AGENCY 'S TEMPS AND THE ARMY'S AESOP SIMULATOR LOCATED AT THE WRF FACILITY:

1. Both the AESOP EMP and the TEMPS simulators provided the largest free-field radiating, horizontally polarized EMP environment available for conducting tests on fixed and mobile transportable electronic systems.

2. The WRF AESOP EMP simulation facilities and the TEMPS simulator represented the majority of EMP simulation facilities in the U.S. Army inventory. These facilities were unique in design amongst all of the DoD facilities and in fact all of the world. EMP simulators are designed differently from one another to support different mission requirements or testing scenarios.
