Information
from Kerry Elkins about this photograph:
My grandfather, Esley
Elkins, was in Freeman in 1918/19 visiting while
he was in the Army. I have many pictures of the
Blanton family including Mae and John. Many
pictures were taken at our house. He had a friend
there, Oscar Bennett. Oscar was a butcher. I do
not know if this would be Oscar "Beef"
Bennett or his son. It is an excellent photo. I
include it. If anyone you know is interested, I
have many available for free on the web. Here is
Oscar.
Information
from Mr. Bennett's daughter, Betty Bennett
Hamilton (BHS Class '46):
The photograph is of
Oscar "Beef" Bennett who at one time
had a butcher shop next door to the Buckeye Coal
Company store in Freeman. The butcher shop is
featured in the photograph of FREEMAN
that was taken in 1901. Oscar "Beef"
Bennett was also chief of police and had his
office in the west end of the "Coon"
Freight Station on the Freeman side, (north) of
the Bluestone River.
