Historical Bowen House

The William Harry Bowen house is located in the community of Freeman, WV along Rt. 52. Members of the Bowen Family lived in this house over many years. It is thought that during the 1940s and early 1950s the house was occupied by Bramwell High School Principal, Dwight W. McCormick's family. Both Jonathan Bowen and son, William Harry Bowen had homes in Freeman, WV. ( See year 1890 map below ). The Ethel Bowen Methodist Church is named after William H. Bowen's daughter, Ethel Bowen. She was a life long member of this church and left a considerable endowment to the church upon her death. She resided in the Bowen historic family home in Freeman, WV. The Bramwell's Elizabeth Bowen Jones Memorial Methodist Church is named after Harry Bowen's daughter, Ethel Bowen. She was a life long member of this church and left a considerable endowment to the church upon her death. She resided in the Bowen historic family home in Freeman, WV. Ethel Bowen was born on 25 Dec 1884 and died on Jan 1976 in Freeman, WV 24724. Both son Joseph "Joe" H. Bowen (1887 - 1966) and his father, William Harry Bowen (1860 - 1942) had homes in Freeman, WV as featured on the 1890 hand drawn map shown below.
