BRAMWELL HIGH SCHOOL CLASS '53

IN MEMORY OF CECIL RANDOLPH SMITH, SR.

BLUEWELL — Cecil Randolph Smith, Sr., age 74, of 169 Zinc Place (Bluewell), Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in a Winston-Salem, N.C. hospital. Born on July 3, 1934 in McClure, Va., he was a son of the late Otis and Hazel Musick Smith. He had been a resident of Bluewell for 32 years and was of the Methodist faith.

He was retired from the US Air Force with 23 years of service and served in Vietnam and Korea. He was a member of the VFW. He was also retired from the Mercer County Board of Education transportation department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Smith. Survivors include: Wife of 48 years: Nancy James Smith of the home; two sons: Cecil R. “Randy” Smith, Jr. of the home, Gregory T. Smith, Sr. of Bluewell; one grandson: Gregory T. “Todd” Smith, Jr. of Bluewell; three brothers: Jerry Lee Smith of Colfax, N.C., Donald Smith of Elkhart, Ind., Brady Smith of South Bend, Ind.; one sister: Connie Sue Smith of Kearnersville, N.C.Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. William Davis officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where the WV Honor Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct military graveside honors. Dan Brewer, Darrell Poe, Mike Proffitt, Steve and Tim Otey, and Adam James will serve as pallbearers.Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Smith family.
