A Honored Bramwell High School Graduate

Dr. Clara Jean Davis McGlone was a 1954 graduate of Bramwell High School and attended Berea College in Kentucky where she could get her college degree in exchange for her labor.  Having earned her undergraduate degree from Berea, Clara moved to Dayton, Ohio where she received her masters and doctorate degrees.   She was a college professor at Sinclair College in the Child and Family Education Department at Sinclair and was a noted authority in her field of early childhood education.  She is widely published.  College scholarships have been established in Dr. Clara McGlone's name to honor her many academic achievements and contributions. The below article from the Dayton Daily News on September 28, 2000 highlighted Dr. McGolone's scholorship fund. This highly accomplished Bramwell High School alumnus died in1984, according to a Sinclair College publication. The scholarship fund that was established in her name was set up in 1983.

The Dr. Clara McGlone Scholarship Fund is made possible by donations given to the Sinclair Foundation in memory of Dr. McGlone, a professor in the Child and Family Education Department at Sinclair. To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in the early childhood education program, have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours, have a grade-point average of at least 3.0 and be actively involved in working with young children through community service.

Dissertation Abstract: "Day-Care home providers are increasing as a major source of child care.  The type of care provided by day-care home providers is crucial to a child's development.  A valid and reliable tool is needed to assess the competencies of day-care home providers."
