Bramwell Memories

Coach Herbert Miller was known for his outstanding professional approach to coaching along with being recognized by his students and peers alike as a excellent teacher. Bramwell High School Alumni remember well his outstanding Math Classes. His tenure at Bramwell High School lasted 14 years with the exception of his 4 years in the Army Air Force (1942 - 46).

Coach Miller holds a special honored place in the history of Bramwell High School .

Coach Herbert "Herb" Grayson Miller was a legendary educator and coach at Bramwell High School (BHS) in Bramwell, West Virginia, where he served for 14 years. He is remembered as an outstanding professional coach and an excellent math teacher.

He served as the head coach for both the varsity football and basketball teams. Records indicate he was coaching these teams as early as the 1946–1947 season and through the late 1940s.

He was recruited to lead the school's new football team by BHS Principal Dwight W. McCormick.

Before his coaching career, Miller was a standout athlete at Emory & Henry College, where he set records for punting. In a 1934 game against Richmond, he achieved what was then the longest kick in a college game, a record for most punts and yards that stood for decades.

Impact and Teaching

Beyond the field, Miller was highly regarded by alumni for his outstanding math classes.
He was part of a respected faculty group during the school's "Millionaire" era that included David Richardson (band director) and Miss Ada B. Whitmore.
His wife, Rebecca Perry Miller, was also a member of the Bramwell faculty.
