Charles Edgar Cumby, 86, of Bramwell, died Saturday, December 11, 1965. in Bluefield Sanitarium following a long illness. Born January 15, 1879, in Pembroke, Va., he was a son of Aaron Thomas Cumby and Ann Williams Cumby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Zidana Belcher Cumby in 1943 and his second wife Annie Maude McBride Hill Cumby, in 1954.
He had resided in Mercer and McDowell Counties most of his life, andwas a retired real estate and timber contractor. He had operated a sawmill in Bluewell several years and was a member of the Bramwell Methodist Church.
Survivors include six stepdaughters, Mrs. Harry (Louise) Goodson and Mrs. Leonard (June) Bailey of Bluefield, Mrs. Edward (Mamie) Bailey, Mrs. Robert (Francees) Eller and Mrs. Don (Ency) Allen of Bramwell and Mrs Charles (Charlotte) Boyd of Waltham, Mass.; three stepsons, Clifton Hill of Bramwell, Hugh Hill of Columbus, Oh., and Lindy Hill of Sandstone, Va.; a nephew whom he reared, Kenneth Price of Bramwell.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Cravens Funeral Home Chapel of Bluewell, with Rev. W.P. Eastwood and Rev. Tony Spinella officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers: Charlie Williams, A.L. Poteet, Frank Allen, Herman Hill, John Painter, and Hamp Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
ANNIE MAUDE MCBRIDE HILL CUMBY
Mrs. Annie Maude Cumby, wife of Charles E. Cumby of Bramwell, died yesterday afternoon, March 22, 1954 in Bluefield Sanitarium following a short illness. She was born March 4, 1893 in Franklin County, Va., a daughter of Thomas Lee Patrick and Sophia Ann Frances Ferguson McBride.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons of a previous marriage, Clifton Hill and Lindebergh ‘Lindy' Hill of Bramwell and Hugh Hill of Bluefield; and six daughters also of the previous marriage, Mrs. Harry (Alma Louise) Goodson, and Mrs. Leonard (June) Bailey, Bluefield; Mrs. Edward Lee (Mamie Lee) Bailey, Mrs. Robert (Jessie Frances) Eller, and Mrs. Don (Ency) Allen all of Bramwell and Mrs. Charles (Charlotte) Boyd of Waltham, Ma. Also, surviving are 16 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lilly McBride Moore of Oakland, Ca. and one brother, Gordon McBride of Yards, Va.,and former husband, Jessie Franklin Hill.
The body will be removed from the Mercer Funeral Home to th residence at 10 o'clck Wednesday morning, where it will remain until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bramwell Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Elwin H. Roberts and the Rev. W.P. Eastwood. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell.
