On November 4,
1999 Bramwell lost one of it's long time
outstanding citizens. Mrs. Virginia Perry Davis
died at the age of 96. She is perhaps best known
for her many years of teaching at the Bramwell
Elementary School. She was a
lifetime member of the Historic Bramwell
Presbyterian Church. She was known throughout the
Town of Bramwell as an outstanding teacher and
resident. She was loved and respected by the
hundreds of children that she taught during her
thirty plus years at Bramwell's Elementary
School. She was the mother of Paul Davis, BHS
Class '49 and William
Perry Davis, BHS
BRAMWELL, WV: Virginia Perry Davis. 96, of 1102 Meador Street, Princeton, formerly of Bramwell, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her residence. Born Aug. 27, 1903, in Boudin,, N.C. She was a daughter of the late Montague and Lettie Early Perry.
She was a retired teacher for the Mercer County school system, having taught at Bramwell Elementary. She was a lifelong member of Bramwell Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Concord College in Athens, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She was a resident of Bramwell from 1916 until 1986, at which time she moved to Princeton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ledworth Davis, Sr.; one son, Paul Ledworth Davis, Jr.; one brother, Charles L. Perry; and stepmother, Dora Craft. She is survived by one son, William Perry Davis and wife Mary Sue of Green Valley; three granddaughters, Virginia Ann Hall and husband Rick of Iron Station, N.C., Paula Gay Hilling and husband Jun with whom she made her home, of Princeton, and Susan A. Lambert and husband Kevin of Bluewell; six great grandchildren. Josh Hall, Jenny and Jason Hilling, Leslie and Leah Lambert and Kelly Meadows; one great great grandson, Brandon Meadows; and caregiver, Aletta Lippencott.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am. Monday at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Revs. Ken Hilling and Paul Amstutz officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Green Valley. Pallbearers will be Skip Wilson, Sam Perdue, Mark Haynes, Russell Lippencott, Leroy Lippencott and Pete Syers. Virginian-Pilot & Norfolk Landmark: Tuesday, Dec 12, 1916 - Mrs. Lettie E. Perry, wife of Montague T. Perry, died last Saturday in Bramwell, W. Va. The body was brought to the city yesterday morning over the Norfolk & Western Railway, and was conveyed to the residence of Mrs. Perry's cousin, E. Trammell, 203 Franklin Avenue, Bluefield, WV, where the funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
Burial will take place in Forest Lawn cemetery. Mrs.. Perry was 39 years of age, and besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Virginia E. Perry and a son, Mr. Charles L. Perry. She is also survived by her parents, Mrs. Victoria and Mr. Thomas P. Early, of Lewiston, N. C.; a brother, Mr. W. T. Early of Lewiston; and three sisters, Mrs. J. T. Dunning of Lewiston; Mrs. W. P. Brown of Norfolk and Mrs. Powell of Hopewell.
