DONALD M. KEESLING - BHS Class '42

Donald M. Keesling, 75, of 2510 Bland Road, Bluefield, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in his sleep at his home. Born Oct. 4, 1924, in Rock, he was a son of the late Everett Luther and Hazel Jane Shanks Keesling of Bramwell.

He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy and attended LeHigh University and Concord College. As a Second Lieutenant he served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during World War II. He was a former mayor of Bramwell and mayor of Bluefield from 1977 to 1981. He also served on the board of directors of the Health Cost Care Review Authority of West Virginia in Charleston. He was owner and operator of theaters in Welch, Bluefield, Beckley and Lewisburg, for over 40 years. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. As his friends know, he was an avid fisherman and gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Keesling of the home; two sons, Mark Everett Keesling of Cary, N.C., and Dr. Jeff Mann of Paris, Tenn.; four daughters, Linda Jane Beggs of Chattanooga, Tenn., Karen Gwynne Bible of Bristol, Tenn., Karen Leigh White of Advance, N.C., and Sara Anne Scott of Princeton; one brother, Rodney W. Keesling of Princeton; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Chadwick officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Green Valley. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Friends my call at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
