Garland Ellis "Bo" Bowman, BHS Class '50
PRINCETON — Garland Ellis "Bo" Bowman, 76, of 3262 New Hope Road in Princeton died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born December 15, 1932 in McComas, he was the son of the late Howard Watson and Ottie Murrell Bowman. He was a 1950 graduate of Bramwell High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bluefield State College and a Masters degree from Radford University. He retired from the Mercer County School System in 1996 after 35 years of service last teaching at Glenwood Junior High School where he coached every sport. Bo was a sports writer and photographer with the Princeton Times for several years and was well respected by his peers and the athletic community for his knowledge and ability. He was the manager of Glenwood Park and the 4-H Camp for 23 years. He attended Carr Memorial United Methodist Church in Princeton and formerly served in the West Virginia National Guard. In addition to his parents, three sisters, Elizabeth Woody, Norma O'Donnell and one infant sister; along with four brothers, Tom Bowman, William Bowman, Randolph Bowman, and infant brother, Allen Bowman preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Kim Bowman of Bluefield, Sandy Gallimore of Princeton, and Ami Kirk and husband William of Wytheville, Va.; three grandchildren, Megan Gallimore, Matthew Gallimore, and Makenzie Kirk; two sisters, Barbara Fogus and husband Don and Mary Shrader and husband James, all of Princeton; one brother, Lance Bowman and wife Anna Lee of Sandlick; former wife and mother of his children, Yvonne Bowman of Bluefield; his wife, Lora Lee Bowman of Sun City, Ariz.; and physician and friend Dr. Abdul Piracha.
