HUGH'S OBITUARY
Hugh P. Barnette, Jr., 81, of Princeton, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Born in McDowell County May 27, 1935 he was the son of the late Hugh P. and Mabel Gibson Barnette, Sr. He was a retired tractor trailer driver last working for Arkansas Best Freight Systems after working several years with Point Express. He was a member of the Teamsters Union in both Richmond, VA and Charleston, WV. Hugh was a man of strong faith and served as a Lay Minister for several years. He attended the Princeton Church of God and was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, one sister, Naomi Marr preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Ruth Eileene Crawford and their two children, Kandace Eileene Barnette and Robert William Crawford all of Princeton; 3 step-children, Kelly William Crawford of Lewisburg, Kevin Scott Crawford of Forest Hill, WV and Kayla Rochelle Pettrey and husband Adam of Princeton; his first wife, Myrtle Lynch Barnette of Green Valley and their children, Michael Hugh Barnette and wife Retta of Salem, VA, Pamela Diane Hill and husband Ted, Rodney Keith Barnette and wife Vickie and Kristie Lynn Barnette all of Princeton; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; five brothers, Anderson Barnette and wife Yvonne and Pastor David Barnette and wife Georgia all of Green Valley, Paul Barnette and wife Gloria of Princeton, John Barnette and wife Carolyn of Bluefield and Danny Barnette and wife Althea of Princeton; four sisters, Margaret Hambrick of Princeton, Emma Johnston of Sandlick, Elizabeth Barnette of Princeton and Kim Tignor and husband Dale of Athens. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Hugh will be conducted 7:00 PM Monday, October 10, 2016, at the Princeton Church of God on the Oakvale Rd. in Princeton with his brother, Pastor David Barnette, brother in law, Pastor Roger Persinger and Eulogist Edward Biggers officiating. Friends may call at the Church from 5:00 PM to the service hour on Monday. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where the WV National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by the service hour.
