Bluefield Daily Telegraph — JoAn Shupe Raines, 85, born Jan. 24, 1927 in Bramwell, W.Va., of Beaver, W.Va. and formerly Princeton and Bluefield, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, Friday, August 31, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Roy Shupe and Massie Kidd Shupe, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby Razmandi.
JoAn graduated from Bramwell High School as valedictorian in 1944. She attended Lewis Gale Nursing School and graduated from Fairmont Business School and also obtained a teaching degree from Concord College. She retired from teaching in Tazewell County Virginia school system, in 1980. JoAn was an accomplished pianist. She performed professionally and for numerous local churches and social functions. She married Noble Mason Raines, July 11, 1946.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Noble Mason Raines; two children: son, Stephen and wife, Debbie Raines, of Girard, Ill., and daughter, Mary Ruth and husband, Mehdi Razmandi, of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, David Raines of St. Louis, Mo., Michael and Mark Razmandi of Houston, Texas; one sister, Ruth and husband, Dickie Cromer; and two nephews, Ronnie and Larry Cromer. The family received friends at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield on Sunday evening, Sept. 2, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John King and Pastor Jack Thomas officiating. Entombment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to Johnston Chapel Baptist Church, 984 Halls Ridge Road, Princeton, WV 24740 or to Daniels Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 427, Daniels, WV 25832.
