Everett Luther Keesling ( 1902-1965 )
Everett Luther Keesling was born March 11, 1902. Mr. Keesling was a partner in the operation of a string of movie theaters in the two Virginias since the early 1930's. He died November 8, 1965, in his office in Bramwell, WV following a stroke. Dr. J. C. Newbold, his business partner for many years was with him at the time of his death. He died shortly after a physican arrived to attend him. He had been in good health recently, apparently fully recovered from a serious injuries received about 18 months ago in an automobile accident in Plymouth, Va.
Mr. Keesling was a director of Minerals Development Corp., a Norfolk and Western Railway enterprise organized to develop the area's low-grade iron ore deposits. Born March 11, 1902 in Eckman, McDowell County, WV. He attended school there and the Ohio University. He was a son of the late William Sullivan and Helen Mary Whitaker Keesling.
He was president of the Gardens In The Sky Corp. which owns a large portion of East River Mountain-Buckhorn Mountain Area., proposed area of a park and recreational area. He was a horticulturist and his home in Bramwell was widely known as ‘Keesling Gardens", pictured below. His specialty was raising rhododendron and azaleas.
Mr. Keesling's wife was Hazel Jane Shanks Keesling (1904-1989). They had two sons: Donald M, and Rodney.
Donald M. Keesling, 75, of 2510 Bland Road, Bluefield, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in his sleep at his home. Born Oct. 4, 1924, in Rock, he was a son of the late Everett Luther and Hazel Jane Shanks Keesling of Bramwell. He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy and attended LeHigh University and Concord College. As a Second Lieutenant he served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during World War II. He was a former mayor of Bramwell and mayor of Bluefield from 1977 - 1981. He also served on the board of directors of the Health Cost Care Review Authority of West Virginia in Charleston. He was owner and operator of theaters in Welch, Bluefield, Beckley and Lewisburg, for over 40 years. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. As his friends know, he was an avid fisherman and gardener.
