IN MEMORY OF HISTORIC BRAMWELL

POLICE CHIEF RICHARD T. & WIFE, ELEANOR PAINTER

 

Richard T. Painter, 77, of P.O. Box 192 Bramwell, died Monday , August 9, 1999, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield. Born March 12, 1922, in Bramwell. He was a son of the late John S. Painter and Mary Helen Shupe Painter. He had been a lifelong resident of Bramwell, and was a retired school bus driver for the Mercer County Board of Education with 30 years service. He was the retired chief of police for Bramwell, superintendent of Bramwell Water Works, a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Air Force, a former chief of poice of the Northfork Police Dept. And he worked for the railroad.He was a member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church and attended Bramwell United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Bramwell High School, a member of the Bluewell Lions Club, a former member of the Black Rock Post VFW 3112 and was a former member of the Bramwell Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor G. Boothe Painter. Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Wrokman of Bramwell and Brenda Barton of Princeton; sisters, Mary Helen Cornett and husband McKinley of Bluefield, Jenny Lee Painter of Roanoke, Va.; brothers, Claude Emmet Painter of Chloe, and Clarence E. Painter of Charleston; three grandchildren, Shade Workman of Bramwell, Michael Barton of Princeton, and Richard Workman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Hilari Nichole Barton of Princeton and Haylie Workman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and special friend, Betty Duff of Bluefield.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell with the Revs. Dale Compton, Wesley Childs, and R Lee Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluewell. Deputies of Mercer County and Mack McCarty will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Vaughn, Millard Howard, Troy Stinson and Charles Asbury. Family wishes memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

BRAMWELL – Eleanor G. Boothe Painter, 68, of Box 192, Bramwell, died Wednesday, November 24, 1993, in a Bluefield hospital. Born, January 20, 1925 in Tazewell, Va., she was a daughter of the late Alfred Anderson and Opha Boothe.

She had been a resident of Bramwell most of her life and was retired from the Mercer County Board of Education as a cook for the Bramwell school for 27 years. She was a member of the Bramwell United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Church circle. She also was a member of the Bramwell Womans Club. Survivors: husband, Richard T. Painter; daughters, Vickie Workman of Bramwell and Brenda Barton of Princeton; sisters, Nellie Shelton of Bramwell and Janice Thomas of Silver Springs, Fl.; grandsons, Michael Barton, Richard Workman and Lance Corporal Shade Workman; one great granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Clark S. Peloubet officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluewell. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Bluefield Daily Telegraph 11-25-1993.
