SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32

Commemorating the life of the late Robert Victor Barnett, of Bramwell, West Virginia, former owner, editor and publisher of the Bramwell Aristocrat and distinguished West Virginian.
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett was born in Gary, West Virginia, the son of Cleo Odle Barnett of Bluefield, West Virginia, and the late Joseph E. Barnett; and
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett received his education as a graduate of Gary High School and Georgia Tech University. He also attended Bluefield State College; and
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett was the owner, editor and publisher of the Bramwell Aristocrat, which he produced from his offices in the Bramwell Bank. The small paper recorded the history of area coalfield people, families and events; and
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett was known as a radio personality and was associated with several radio stations. He was known as "the man with the golden voice"; and
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett was an asset to his community by his active involvement in a myriad of organizations and associations. He also served his community in official capacities, such as chairman of the Bramwell Economic Development Authority; chairman of the Bramwell Foundation; chairman of the Mercer County Solid Waste Authority; and, past chairman of the Mercer County Commission on Aging. He lead in efforts to restore and maintain the historic Oak Hill Cemetery in Bramwell; and,
Whereas, Robert Victor Barnett passed away February 21, 1997, at his home in Bramwell, West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby expresses its sincere sadness at the passing of Robert Victor Barnett, owner, editor and publisher of the Bramwell Aristocrat and distinguished West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate posthumously expresses its appreciation to the late Robert Victor Barnett for his contributions to West Virginia through his active participation in numerous community- related associations and organizations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of the late Robert Victor Barnett.
