IN MEMORYOF MR. DAVID RICHARDSON

JANUARY 16, 1926 – DECEMBER 14, 2017

 

Mr. David Richardson was Bramwell High School's first band director. He came to Bramwell after graduating from Concord College in the Summer of 1949. His outstanding knowlege of music, backed by his exceptional ability to teach, made membership in the BHS Band a memorable and cherished experience for many students. Mr. Richardson worked within the Mercer County school system for thirty five years. He retired in 1985.

David Stuart Richardson, 91 of Bluefield, WV died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. He was born January 16, 1926 in Bland, VA and was the son of the late Stuart and Artie King Richardson. He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi G. Richardson, brothers Randall and Wayne Richardson and a sister Wanda Thompson.

Mr. Richardson was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from Concord College in Music Education and taught band and choir at Bramwell High School for 35 years. He was organist and/or choir director Bland Street Methodist Church, Bramwell Presbyterian, College Avenue Baptist and Grace Methodist. Mr. Richardson touched many lives through his love of music and teaching.

He is survived by his daughter Daveen Denardo and Gary Denardo; their sons Zachary of Bluefield and Dr. Andrew Denardo of Christiansburg, VA; his son Edward "Jake" Richardson and his twin daughters Grace and Abigail and their mother Christy Richardson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service time. Interment with Military Graveside Rites by the Mercer County Veterans Council will be at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley where Zachary Denardo, Andrew Denardo, Gary Denardo, Kim Murphy, Randy Albert and John Ertz serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 103 Duhring Street, Bluefield, WV 24701 to establish a music education scholarship.
